Dream Business Vision Like Van Gogh?
Estimated Reading Time: 3 Minutes
Hi everyone,
I hope you’ve had a fantastic week and are ready for the upcoming festive season—it’s already full-on Christmas mode in the Edwards household! This week, I’ve been at a training camp, and I wanted to share some of the insights I’ve gathered. Let’s dive in.
1. Efficiency vs. Effectiveness
It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of doing things well. But are they the right things? You can be highly efficient at completing tasks that don’t align with your vision or goals. Before diving into a busy week, ask yourself: are the tasks you’re smashing out truly serving your business growth, improving your life, or moving you closer to your goals? Focus not just on doing things right but on doing the right things.
2. Habits That No Longer Serve You
We all have routines or habits that once worked but may no longer serve our current situation. A personal example: I had a kettle that broke, requiring me to balance a cup on the button to make it work. Even after replacing the kettle, I found myself still putting the cup on the button—a habit that no longer made sense. Take a moment to reflect on your routines and ask yourself: are you holding onto habits that are outdated or inefficient? What can you let go of to create space for growth?
3. The Van Gogh Vision
Van Gogh famously visualized his paintings before ever putting brush to canvas. Similarly, we need a clear vision for our businesses and lives. This week, while training as an EOS Implementer, I focused on the six key components for business growth, starting with vision. Where are you heading? What does success look like for you? Take time to dream it before you act on it—just like Van Gogh.
4. Tim Ferriss: Imperfect Action
I highly recommend a short video by Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Workweek. He reminds us that even high achievers have off days. Sometimes he oversleeps, gets distracted, or doesn’t feel motivated. It’s a powerful reminder that you don’t need to be perfect to succeed. Progress over perfection, always. Here’s the link to the video—take a few minutes to watch it this week!
5. Person First, Always
One of our core values is “Person First.” It’s a mindset I encourage you to adopt with your clients, team, and even suppliers. When you genuinely care about someone’s vision for their life in three years, you can tailor your work to add value beyond the obvious. Ask meaningful questions, build deeper connections, and align your actions with their goals. It’s not just good for business—it’s good for humanity.
Profit First Bonus Tip
If you’re overwhelmed by Profit First or not sure where to start, here’s a simple action step: Set aside 1% of your real revenue (sales minus cost of sales) each week. Over time, this builds a habit and creates a small reserve. Every quarter, reward yourself with a bonus from this reserve—it’s a great motivator and a step towards implementing Profit First in your business.
Have an amazing week, and as always, feel free to reach out with any questions or insights.
Cheers,
Stephen
